The Last of Us is a survival horror action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation 3. The game is set in the post-apocalyptic United States, twenty years after the second cordyceps brain infection pandemic, in which a fungus-infected fungus-like parasite known as 'Cordyceps' infects the brains of humans, turning them into zombie-like monsters.
Survivors of this pandemic, known as 'The Infected', are immune to the disease. In order to survive, the player assumes control of Joel, a survivor living in a walled-off quarantine zone in Boston, Massachusetts, two years after the initial outbreak. Joel is tasked with escorting teenage girl, Ellie, to a resistance group known as the Fireflies, who are based in a settlement located in the nearby mountains.
The Last of Us is widely praised for its narrative, character development, voice acting, artistic direction, music, and sound design. It is considered one of the greatest video games of all time and is the third highest-rated PlayStation 3 game of all time.
After I turned off the game, I was left with a lingering sense of awe and looking forward to the future. I believe that this game is the first step into what is going to be a truly remarkable era of gaming. I have decided to write a short article about the general gameplay mechanics, and some tips on how to survive.
This article is meant to be a set of general tips for the game, and as such will be vague in some parts. It is not possible to discuss the game in detail without spoiling the story, so there will be no specific details.
I do not claim to be an expert of the game, and these are only my opinions and personal experiences.
Tip 1: Listen To Your Surroundings
It is very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the game and make rash decisions. As such, I recommend you take your time, and always look at your surroundings.
The environment is very important, and as such, you should always be observing it. You can find crates, boxes, and other items to use as cover. The world is also filled with small details, such as the change in scents when you enter a building, or the crackling of a radio.
Listen to the sounds of the world.
Tip 2: Do Not Be Afraid to Run
In the world of The Last of Us, you will find many different kinds of enemies. Some enemies will be easy to defeat, while others will be very challenging. Regardless of the enemy, you should never be afraid to run.
A good way to play the game is to run and gun, only stopping to hide behind a wall or a crate.
Tip 3: Learn From Your Mistakes
If you make a mistake, do not be afraid to try again. In most cases, you will die if you make a mistake. However, the game is generous, and it is possible to recover from a mistake.
Most enemies will give you a second chance, and you will be able to get back up after being knocked down.
Tip 4: Use Your Environment to Your Advantage
The Last of Us, like many modern games, features a wide variety of environmental mechanics. As such, you should always be on the lookout for items that you can use to your advantage.
For example, you can throw bottles to distract enemies or use a brick or a pipe to lure enemies into a trap. You can also use objects to hide from your rivals, and the world is filled with many different items that you can use to your advantage.
For example, if you are being chased by a group of enemies, it is often best to run into a building, and use the objects inside to your advantage.
Tip 5: Supplement With Crafted Supplements
During your journey, you will find different kinds of 'Crafted Supplements'. These supplements are in the form of pills, and they can be crafted with supplies that you can find.
These supplements can be used to replenish your health, or temporarily boost your stats. It is important to remember that these supplements are only a temporary solution, and you should use them wisely.
Tip 6: Try New Things
The Last of Us is a very satisfying game, and the controls are very responsive. As such, I recommend that you try new things, and find new ways to play. There are many different ways to play the game, and you should always feel free to experiment.
The Last of Us has a very interesting story, and it features some of the best gameplay mechanics I have ever encountered. It is a truly remarkable game, and I highly recommend it to everyone. What’s your strategy? Ready to share it with us
